Location: Cedar City and remote camping on Arizona Strip
Overview:
Interns will work with SUU outdoor recreation professors to collect recreation impact data on the Arizona Strip, a remote and primitive area. The interns will work in varied environments: high desert, low desert, and canyon areas. Data collection will focus on the Grand Canyon Parashant National Monument. A field vehicle will be provided. Housing is not provided.
Position Responsibilities:
Primary duties will entail field-based data collection in remote areas as well as data analysis and reporting.
Qualifications:
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team setting.
- Capable of working independently on assignments with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in typing and computer usage and attention to detail.
- Willing to spend extended periods of time in the field and is comfortable in remote and primitive environments with limited cell phone service.
- Willing to work outdoors in the Arizona Strip for up to 4 days at a time.
- Capable of hiking across uneven terrain in a variety of weather conditions carrying a field pack, water, and personal supplies.
- Hold a valid drivers license and capable of driving on primitive roads.
- Capable of field trip planning, logistics, and risk management.
